RISK ANYLYSIS

 RISK ANYLYSIS

Risk analysis while shooting a music video in a village?

When shooting a music video in a village, risk analysis is crucial to ensure safety, smooth production, and the well-being of everyone involved. Here are some key risks to consider and ways to manage them:

Weather Conditions

  • Risk: Sudden weather changes (rain, storms, extreme heat or cold) can disrupt filming.
  • Mitigation: Monitor the weather forecast closely, have contingency plans for indoor locations, and prepare weather-appropriate gear (like rain covers for equipment).

Safety of Cast and Crew

  • Risk: Potential hazards like uneven ground, livestock, or traffic in the village.
  • Mitigation: Conduct a site survey before the shoot. Mark out safe areas for the crew and cast. Hire a local guide or someone familiar with the area to assist. Ensure all actors and crew are informed about potential risks.

 Local Wildlife and Animals

  • Risk: Wildlife or domestic animals (like dogs, cattle, etc.) could pose a threat to the crew or interrupt the filming process.
  • Mitigation: Research the local wildlife and animal presence beforehand. Ensure crew members stay alert and keep a safe distance from animals.

Permissions and Legal Risks

  • Risk: Filming without proper permission from local authorities or landowners could lead to fines or disruption.
  • Mitigation: Ensure you have all necessary permits, including location agreements and permissions to film in public or private spaces. Be mindful of any local regulations or cultural restrictions.

Cultural Sensitivity and Local Customs

  • Risk: Filming in a village could inadvertently disrespect local traditions or customs.
  • Mitigation: Do your research on the local culture, and be respectful. Involve local community members in the production, ensuring they understand your intentions.

Traffic and Transportation

  • Risk: If filming takes place near roads, heavy traffic or poor infrastructure can be dangerous for cast and crew.
  • Mitigation: Coordinate with local authorities for road closures or traffic control. Ensure transportation is safe and reliable.

 Equipment Damage or Loss

  • Risk: Remote areas might pose risks for the safety of expensive filming equipment, especially if there’s a lack of proper storage or transportation.
  • Mitigation: Secure all equipment in safe locations when not in use. Consider insurance for gear and have a team member assigned to oversee equipment care.

Community Relations

  • Risk: The local community may not be accustomed to film shoots, and there could be misunderstandings or conflicts.
  • Mitigation: Communicate with locals ahead of time, ensuring they’re aware of the shoot. Offer compensation if needed, and maintain a positive relationship with the village.

SHOT LIST

 SHOT LIST

In a slow music video, shot angles are often carefully chosen to reflect the mood, themes, and emotions of the song. The pacing of the video is typically slower, which allows for more thoughtful, intimate, or dramatic visual choices.

STARTING:

we planned starting with a slow shot showing the main character and a little setting(medium shot)

(the shot will be of wear dupata to show the desi effect in a=our very first shot)

Close-Up

Close-ups focus on the facial expressions or emotions of the performer, which is essential in slow music videos to capture the vulnerability, longing, or introspective mood.

They create intimacy, allowing viewers to connect with the artist or character on a personal level.

we have planned to show close ups of face expressions, jewelry, and makeup which will be giving an effect of panjabi and a desi look
-taking shots of earings
-nose pin
close up of hands showing bangles and rings.
-picking up the flowers.

Medium Shot

A medium shot typically frames the subject from the waist up, showing both the person's expression and some body language.

This shot gives a sense of space around the subject while still emphasizing emotion. It’s often used in slow music videos to capture the performance while maintaining a connection with the audience.

-medium shots of while she is lipsing
-showing a little background of sets
-face expressions

full/long shots
A long shot refers to a camera shot that captures a wide view of the subject and the surroundings. It typically shows the subject from a distance, often placing them in the larger context of their environment
.
-full shots of her while showing her dressing, mise en scene and full character representing her panjabi looks
-also taking some long shots while the girl is sing the song. (lipsyning)

Tracking shots;
A tracking shot is a type of camera movement in filmmaking where the camera follows the subject or action, typically moving along a set path. This can be done using a dolly (a wheeled platform), a track (rail system), or even handheld methods in some cases.

-showing tracking shots of while she is walking in the fields and villages.
-tracking shot of her hands while plucking flowers, while opening and closing windows.

wide shot;
wide shot is a type of camera shot in filmmaking where the subject is filmed from a considerable distance, capturing a broad view of the environment or setting around the subject. It often shows the subject in relation to their surroundings, giving the audience a sense of the larger context.

- wide shot to show our settings (village, fields, tample, old houses)

IDEA

 DESI CORE

My theme is desi core and related to this theme, we decided to work on (do pall), a panjabi song.

-she  feel happy when getting ready in desi because it taps into a sense of cultural pride, identity, and connection.

- Wearing traditional desi clothing connects people to their heritage and roots. It can be a source of pride and joy to celebrate one's culture through clothing.

-the act of getting ready in desi clothes can bring a sense of belonging, joy, and connection to one’s culture and family.

Tone and emotions: The song carries a nostalgic and emotional tone. It's a mix of hope and sadness as the lyrics reflect on how a moment of love or connection can feel both eternal and fleeting at the same time.

1st song analysis

 FIRST SONF ANALYSIS

First we planned doing a music video on "Maula Mere Maula"

Maula Mere Maula” is a soulful and deeply emotional song from the 2007 Bollywood movie Anwar, composed by Mithoon, with lyrics by Sayeed Quadri and vocals by Roopkumar Rathod. It’s a romantic and spiritual song that blends themes of divine love and human longing. Here’s a detailed analysis of the song:

Theme: Love as a Divine Experience

The song conveys the intensity of love by likening it to a spiritual experience. The repeated invocation of “Maula” (meaning “Lord” or “Master”) suggests that the protagonist sees their beloved as a divine blessing. This dual-layered interpretation blurs the lines between human and divine love, making the emotion universal and timeless.

Lyrics: Poetic and Evocative

•“Maula mere, maula mere, maula mere maula”

The repetitive chant creates a meditative quality, drawing the listener into a state of emotional surrender.

•“Teri nazar ka asar hai, maula”

This line highlights how the beloved’s gaze has a transformative effect on the protagonist, almost as if it holds a divine power. It captures the notion of being completely captivated and elevated by love.

•“Mujhko bana de jo tu chahe, maula”

This plea reflects the protagonist’s willingness to lose themselves entirely in love, resonating with themes of submission often found in Sufi poetry.

Composition: A Fusion of Devotion and Romance

Mithoon’s music blends classical Indian instruments like the sitar with modern orchestration, creating a hauntingly beautiful melody. The slow tempo and minimalistic arrangement allow the vocals to shine, enhancing the emotional depth of the song.

Vocals: Roopkumar Rathod’s Soulful Rendition

Roopkumar Rathod’s voice is rich and emotive, perfectly capturing the yearning and reverence in the lyrics. His nuanced delivery enhances the spiritual undertones of the song, making it resonate deeply with listeners.

Cinematic Context:

In the movie Anwar, the song is used to depict the protagonist’s deep love and admiration for his muse. The visuals of the song, featuring serene landscapes and intense gazes, amplify its spiritual and romantic essence.

Connection to Sufi Ideals:

The song reflects Sufi themes of union with the divine through love. The devotion to the beloved mirrors the Sufi concept of losing oneself in love to attain spiritual enlightenment.

Conclusion:

“Maula Mere Maula” is not just a love song; it’s a spiritual journey. Its poetic lyrics, soulful composition, and heartfelt vocals create a profound experience that speaks to the soul. Whether listened to as a romantic ode or a devotional hymn, it leaves a lasting impression on the listener.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Concept development for our music video,

My interest in making a music video is a desi core theme which will promote concepts of desi looks, art of getting ready, and a small narrative.

THEME:

Creating a desi music video involves blending traditional South Asian cultural elements with modern music and visuals. The term "Desi" refers to the cultures, languages, and traditions of South Asia. A Desi music video concept can range from deeply rooted traditional themes to more contemporary, fusion styles that combine Desi elements with global influences, for eg.

Desi music videos often explore traditional and cultural themes like love, family, celebration, festivals (e.g.,  Eid), and spiritual elements (e.g., qawwali). These themes can be incorporated into a narrative or storyline that appeals to a Desi audience’s emotional and cultural sensibilities.

Moreover, Desi music videos often feature rich and vibrant color reds, golds, greens, and yellows symbolizing energy, passion, and festivity. The visuals are lively, dynamic, and ornate, aligning with the vivid expressions of Desi culture.

Also, In Desi music videos, the costumes are key to setting the tone. Female dancers or singers might wear sarees, lehengas, or salwar kameez, while male performers might be seen in kurtas or sherwanis. Accessories like turbans, bindis, dupattas, or jewelry are often included.

It also include love stories, they can be traditional, such as an arranged marriage scenario, or contemporary, depicting young love, heartbreak, or desire. Traditional themes like forbidden love or family drama are also common.

Settings: The locations could range from traditional settings like palaces, temples, or rustic rural landscapes to urban spaces reflecting contemporary Desi life. The use of vibrant colors, traditional architecture, and festive environments adds to the cultural authenticity.

TRENDS IN MUSIC VIDEO PROMOTION

What are the trends in music video promotions?

Music promotion is continuously evolving with the advancements in technology, shifts in consumer behavior, and changes in the music industry landscape.

For example,

Social Media and Influencer Marketing:

Social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter play a crucial role in promoting music. Artists are increasingly using these platforms to engage with fans, tease new releases, and showcase their personalities.

Streaming Platforms and Playlists:

Streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and Amazon Music have become the central hubs for music discovery and consumption. Playlists, both curated by the platform and user-generated, are essential tools for music promotion.

Music Videos and Visual Content:

Visual content, particularly music videos, remains one of the most powerful promotional tools. Music videos are used not only on YouTube but also across social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

Collaborations and Cross-Promotions:

Collaborations between artists, genres, and even brands have become a major promotional strategy. These collaborations can help cross-promote to different fanbases, increase visibility, and create buzz around a release.

Music promotion has evolved into a multi-faceted process that incorporates technology, creativity, and direct engagement with audiences. With a focus on social media, influencer partnerships, streaming platforms, and fan interactions, artists are now able to create personalized and viral campaigns that reach fans directly.

MUSIC THEORIESTS

 My research on music theorist?

Music video theorists have contributed to understanding the relationship between music videos and the broader cultural, social, and artistic contexts. These theorists analyze how music videos function as visual texts and explore how they convey meaning, influence popular culture, and reflect societal issues.

For example:

John Fiske

  • Contribution: John Fiske is known for his work in media and cultural studies, particularly in examining how audiences interpret and engage with media texts, including music videos. He focuses on semiotics (the study of signs and symbols) and how meanings are constructed through images, sounds, and lyrics.
  • Key Concept: Negotiated Reading – Fiske suggested that audiences don’t passively consume media, but actively interpret it based on their own social context, experiences, and beliefs. In the case of music videos, viewers bring their own cultural understanding to the content, which can lead to diverse interpretations.
  • Relevance to Music Videos: Fiske’s work helps to understand how music videos communicate multiple layers of meaning, such as through the interplay of the song's lyrics, the artist's image, and visual symbolism.

MY RESEARCH ON SOCIAL ISSUES

WHAT ARE THE SOCIAL ISSUES WE FACE WHILE SHOOTING A MUSIC VIDEO?

When shooting a music video, various social issues may arise that can impact the production process or the final product. These issues can range from ethical concerns to logistical challenges, and addressing them properly is crucial for maintaining a responsible and respectful approach to filmmaking. Some key social issues faced during music video production include:

Cultural Sensitivity

  • Issue: Using cultural symbols, traditions, or aesthetics without proper understanding or respect for the culture can lead to accusations of cultural appropriation. This is especially relevant when drawing inspiration from non-Western cultures or marginalized groups.
  • Solution: Research the culture thoroughly, seek input from cultural consultants or individuals from that community, and avoid exploiting cultural elements purely for aesthetic purposes. Being sensitive to the meanings and significance of cultural symbols is essential.

Diversity

  • Issue: sMusic videos can sometimes lack diversity, especially when it comes to representation of race, ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation. This can alienate certain audiences and create a lack of inclusivity in mainstream media.
  • Solution: Ensure that people from different racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds are represented. Be mindful of including individuals with disabilities, people of different sexual orientations, and gender identities in your videos. Diversity should reflect the audience's wide-ranging backgrounds and experiences.

Environmental Impact

  • Issue: Music video shoots, especially large-scale productions, can have a significant environmental footprint. This includes waste production, energy consumption, and other resources used during production (such as water, fuel for travel, and plastic waste).
  • Solution: Take steps to minimize environmental impact, such as using sustainable production practices, reducing waste, using eco-friendly materials, and offsetting carbon emissions from travel. Consider virtual or remote shooting options when feasible to reduce environmental harm.

Substance Abuse and Glorification of Harmful Behaviors

  • Issue: Music videos that depict substance abuse, reckless behavior, or violence can influence viewers, especially younger audiences, and may glamorize risky activities.
  • Solution: Be mindful of how such behaviors are portrayed. Consider the impact on viewers and whether the depiction contributes to harmful narratives or reinforces negative stereotypes. Focus on promoting positive messages, responsible behavior, and mental well-being.

Privacy and Consent

  • Issue: In some cases, individuals in music videos may not fully understand how their image will be used, leading to privacy violations or consent issues. This can happen when actors, dancers, or even bystanders are filmed without fully understanding the context of the video.
  • Solution: Obtain explicit consent from all individuals involved in the video. Ensure that everyone understands how their image will be used and provide them with the opportunity to approve or reject scenes. Respect privacy and ensure the use of personal likenesses is in line with agreements.

Accessibility Issues

  • Issue: Some music videos fail to consider accessibility for people with disabilities, such as lacking closed captions, visual impairments, or accessibility-friendly formats.
  • Solution: Ensure that your music video is accessible to as many people as possible. This could mean including subtitles or captions, providing audio descriptions, and considering diverse needs when it comes to visual presentation
While shooting a music video, it’s crucial to be conscious of these social issues and act ethically in every phase of production. Awareness and sensitivity to the impacts your music video may have on audiences and society are key to creating responsible and inclusive content. Collaborating with diverse teams, adhering to ethical standards, and considering the broader social implications of your work can help prevent negative consequences.

GENRES

 MUSIC VIDEO GENRES

Music videos can be categorized into several genres, each with its own visual and thematic style. Here are some of the most common genres of music videos:

Performance-Based Videos

  • Description: These videos primarily focus on the artist or band performing the song, often in a live or staged setting. The visuals showcase the artist’s energy and connection with the music.
  • Common Features: Close-ups of the artist, band members playing instruments, and audience shots (in the case of live performances).
  • Examples: Rock band performances, pop singers performing in a studio.

Narrative/Storytelling Videos

  • Description: These videos follow a storyline that complements or interprets the song's lyrics. The story could be abstract, literal, or symbolic, but it often features actors or dancers to tell a visual story.
  • Common Features: A beginning, middle, and end; a storyline that may or may not align directly with the song’s message; acting or dialogue.

Conceptual/Artistic Videos

  • Description: These videos are more abstract and focus on visual aesthetics, symbolism, and creative direction. They may not follow a narrative but instead evoke emotions or concepts through artistic elements.
  • Common Features: Unique visual effects, symbolic imagery, and artistic themes.
  • Examples: "Take On Me" by A-ha, "Bad Guy" by Billie Eillish.

Lyric Videos

  • Description: Lyric videos display the lyrics of the song on screen, often with creative typography, animations, and visual effects. They serve as an engaging way for fans to connect with the song's lyrics.
  • Common Features: Animated or static text, visually engaging designs that highlight the words.
These genres can also overlap, with music videos combining elements from multiple categories (e.g., a narrative-based video with dance choreography or a performance video with experimental visuals). The genre you choose will depend on your artistic vision, budget, and the type of song you're working with.

INSPIRATION FROM MUSIC VIDEO

WHAT INSPIRES ME FOR A MUSIC VIDEO?

My music video is deeply inspired by Desi themes, drawing from the rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions of South Asia. I’m influenced by the vivid colors, intricate patterns, and emotional storytelling often found in Desi art, fashion, and music. The fusion of these elements with modern visuals allows me to create a unique aesthetic that pays homage to the beauty of Desi culture while adding a contemporary twist. Through this video, I aim to celebrate the depth and energy of Desi influences, combining them with my personal artistic vision to create something fresh and meaningful.

My favorite music videos are the videos which promotes desi clothing brands, and jewelry with a soft covers of old songs. for.eg "asim jofa" is a clothing brand and to promote these cloths they make small music videos and promote them on instagram and on youtube as adds.

Other than this I like music videos like these, Here are some examples:

  • Metaverse Concerts: Artists are increasingly performing in virtual worlds or the metaverse, where avatars of fans can interact in virtual venues. This allows for global audiences to attend events without geographic limitations.
  • Ticketed Livestreams: Some artists have embraced ticketed livestreams as a way to generate income, offering fans the chance to attend live events virtually with exclusive content or merchandise.

Music Marketing and Brand Partnerships

  • Collaborations with Brands: More artists are partnering with brands for marketing campaigns, product lines, and exclusive content. This can range from clothing collaborations to sponsorships of live events.
  • Influencer Marketing: Brands and artists are using influencers and social media celebrities to promote songs, albums, and merchandise, often with targeted campaigns.

Subscription and Direct-to-Consumer Models

  • Artist Subscription Models: Artists are adopting subscription services like Patreon, where fans can pay a monthly fee for exclusive content, early access to tickets, and behind-the-scenes footage.
  • Crowdfunding: Platforms like Kickstarter and GoFundMe have seen artists use crowdfunding campaigns to finance albums or tours, offering unique perks for fans who contribute.
These trends highlight how the music industry is adapting to new technologies, shifting cultural attitudes, and evolving consumer behaviors. Whether it’s through embracing AI, engaging in digital spaces like the metaverse, or shifting to more eco-conscious practices, the industry continues to innovate and transform.
